Our Parish Nurse is Sue Martinez.
Her position is designed to provide whole person health promotion, disease prevention services with an emphasis on spiritual care across the age span of the congregation, reaching out to those in need. Her ministry brings the elements of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health into focus, making congregational activities meaningful and relevant for today’s congregation.
Health and Wellness Committee
The mission of this committee is to support and promote whole person wellness for each member of our church community. It is an active, energetic committee who supports the Parish Nurse in bringing wellness programs to the church and wider community. Meetings are held every six to eight weeks during the school year.
Health And Wellness Happenings
Caregivers Support Group
The caregivers support group meets every other Wednesday morning from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm in the church lounge. Anyone is invited to attend who is in a situation of caring for a loved one. For more information contact Sue Martinez, Parish Nurse.
Blood Pressure Screening
Blood Pressure Screenings are provided on the first Sunday of every month after both worship services by a health care professional. Assistance in promoting a healthy lifestyle is offered if requested.
Health Education
Health Education is provides in various ways throughout the year. Monthly newsletter columns and bulletin tips are written by the Parish Nurse Sue Martinez on health topics of interest to our parishioners. Educational materials are available on various subjects, “Care Notes” are located outside the sanctuary and health related programs are available throughout the year. CPR/AED training, heart healthy cooking classes, stroke symptom awareness are typical of the class offerings. See newsletter or web page for future programs.
Wellness Activities
Several times throughout the year special events are held to bring awareness to our health. Activities in the past have included a “Walk to Bethlehem”, a Health and Safety Fair, an obstacle course for the children, breast cancer awareness coffee hours, a heart healthy fashion show, and several others. Please watch the bulletin or web page for new activities.
House Calls: Caring calls are made to members in the hospital, extended care facilities, and home as needed or requested by members of the Pastoral Care team and the Deacons.
Home Bound Ministry
The Assistant to the Minister, Charles Lamb, the Parish Nurse and the Deacons reach out to members who are no longer able to attend church on a regular basis due to medically related issues. If you know of anyone in our congregation who is “homebound” and not receiving visits please let the church office know at 745-7067 so someone on our team can follow up.
Flu Shot Clinic
Each fall the Visiting Nurses Association comes in to provide a flu shot clinic for us on a Sunday morning. Watch for dates in the newsletter and bulletins.
Sacred Journey Worship Service
A quiet, meditative, contemplative evening worship service available monthly during the fall and winter. Includes prayer, candle lighting, guided imagery and music—a respite from the hurried, harried, busyness of life.
